We're Back
It's been a minute...
Hey there,
We’re happy to see you again. As some of you may know., the website was down for, wow, a few years? We were hacked and at the time we were knee deep in Curiosity Doughnuts and didn’t have the energy or the bandwidth to fix it. Typepad said it must be a GoDaddy issue and GoDaddy said it was a Typepad issue. They both independently claimed to have fixed it and when we pointed out that it clearly wasn’t fixed, we were told that everything would have to be reloaded manually to the tune of many hours and a lot of money, if we weren’t willing to do it ourselves. So, we let it go and focused on the things we could do in that moment, like doughnuts.
Anyway, the problem was always there in the back of our minds. Alex would periodically look for a solution and there seemed to be nothing we could afford. And then, a reader reached out and offered to help us. I was a little suspicious at first. I’m a born and bred New Yorker and I was raised to believe that nothing is free in this world. Alex, on the other hand, was ready to take any helping hand that was offered. As it turned out, Julian really did just want to help us and he certainly did. He single-handedly brought website back and moved it to a Wordpress site before Typepad shut down. It was nothing short of miraculous. We are very thankful that he reached out to us, not only did we get our website back, we also met someone really cool and made a new friend in the process.
So here we are, ready to begin again. The website will be there for off the cuff musings and ramblings. Alex has been posting there for a while now. The newsletter will be something more. We will link to whatever we’ve put on the website. In addition, we’ll do at least one longer piece with recipes just for the newsletter. Maybe we’ll play around with some chats or video posts, but that will be down the line, once we get a little more comfortable with this new medium. We decided to change things up because the world has changed. RSS readers are dinosaurs and people don’t necessarily have time to read daily blog posts anymore. Most “blogs” out there are really websites run by companies, large and small, and have a very similar feel. That’s not what we’re going for. We’re just going to do our own thing in our little corner of the internet and not worry about likes or clicks. To that end, we’re going to commit to putting out one newsletter per month, starting March 15.
We appreciate all of our subscribers and we especially would like to thank all of our paid subscribers. It was amazing to see people signing up so quickly. It is great motivation for us. If the newsletter starts to generate some more paid subscribers we will have some flexibility to adjust our content accordingly. That said, no one is obligated to pay for content. We are here because we enjoy exploring new ideas and we are slowly carving out more time and energy to get back to Ideas in Food. It’s like a muscle that we haven’t used in a while, we have to whip it back into shape and start using it again.
The theme for this next phase is Ideas in Food: Cooking Stuff & Nonsense. This is where we get to play in the kitchen with anything we feel like cooking or eating. It’s a safe space to test out new theories, make delicious things, and occasionally fumble the ball. We hope you’ll join us there and play along.
See you soon,
Aki & Alex

We’re back!
